Monk Gyatso (dad): This first chapter helps us get to know the characters and the world they live in. It has lessons about how war tears families apart: both Katara’s and Zuko’s. It mostly just asks the questions about how this ‘kid’ is going to save the world, because he seems more interested in playing. It asks the question: Will Zuko find a way to feel peace with himself and his family?
Sokka needs to do some growing up, and so does Katara, but
we see their strong characteristics: that her faith is strong and that he is brave.
As Katara is faced with decisions, Aang tells her that she
needs to let go of her fear. This CAN be
true, in our lives, if we let fear stop us from doing things, we will oftentimes
NOT take the path of faith, hope, and live our lives to the fullest.
Pirate Capn (boy 8 yrs old): I thought Sokka was good because he tried to take his goals seriously, and train the little boys in the tribe to be brave warriors like him.
Now, these are NOT lesson plans, and are not fully developed; but they are the beginning of discussions we are having in our home and our invitation for you to join in and see lessons you glean from the shows. So Please Comment!!
