Monk Gyatso: The lesson from this chapter is that things might be
different than you first think, or that sometimes a solution to a problem requires
a creative approach.
With the tasks King
Bumi gives Aang, each one has a little trick to the solution, and often what
you first assume is not true (gorrilagoats can be pets, old men can be
powerful).
Aang thinks the tasks won’t
be difficult the way he first approaches them, and then finds that they are
much more challenging than he first thought.
But he was resilient and didn’t give up too easily, he kept trying
different ways to solve the tasks until he figured it out, rather than giving
up and calling it impossible after trying it only one way.
If at first you don’t succeed, try, try
again. We shouldn’t make judgments too
hastily. There are a number of different
ways to approach problems, and sometimes they take creativity and fresh
thinking.
Panzerfaust (boy, age 10): We need to find different ways to figure things out. In the book "Hatchet" he learns from his mistakes and he keeps trying. Remember Thomas Edison and his lightbulb? Hundreds of tries.
Pinky Pie (girl, age 4): Aang had to do tests.
Now, these are NOT lesson plans, and are not fully
developed; but they are the beginning of discussions we are having in
our home and our invitation for you to join in and see lessons you glean
from the shows. So Please Comment!!
