Monk Gyatso:
Here we see the destruction of nature through war. Destroying beautiful and necessary things (we need nature for food!) shows disregard for the blessings The Lord has given us. Perhaps not a sin in itself, but if you look at the hearts of those behind it, their hearts are probably not set on treasures in heaven as they ought.
Similarly
to last time, we see that hope, in the symbol of new life through the acorn, is
what helps the spirit calm down and contain its frustration. Hope is very powerful in helping us deal with
mistakes and poor choices: those of others as well as our own.
Another lesson we see here, is that it is Aang’s duty to
help people, and find out HOW he can help people in different ways. Helping others is our calling as well, but it
doesn’t mean doing the SAME thing for ALL people. Some people need food, some need
encouragement, some need friendship and so forth. Serving others requires not only the doing,
but the understanding of what needs to be done in each situation. Through listening to others, understanding
true principles and taking the Holy Spirit as our guide, is how we can know how
to help in tough situations.
Now, these are NOT lesson plans, and are not fully
developed; but they are the beginning of discussions we are having in
our home and our invitation for you to join in and see lessons you glean
from the shows. So Please Comment!!
