103: The Southern Air Temple

Monk Gyatso (dad):  Aang grows angry and out of control with sorrow when he realizes what the fire nation did to his home, friends and family.  All of us have power in the choices we make, and we need to be careful to not let our anger or other strong feelings break our self-control and say or do hurtful things.
We also see good examples of loyalty and friendship and their power, as Katara is able to sooth Aang as she tells him that they are his family now.  Being a good friend means you comfort others, encourage them, and help them meet their challenges.

In the Zuko story, we see what true dishonor is when General Zhao tries to attack Zuko after he has been fairly defeated, and even spared.  This is cowardly, and shows Zhao’s lack of control.  We see mercy and honor in Zuko: the seeds of goodness!

Now, these are NOT lesson plans, and are not fully developed; but they are the beginning of discussions we are having in our home and our invitation for you to join in and see lessons you glean from the shows.  So Please Comment!!

  1. Hi, as a 26 year old who will soon to be married and inevitably be a father, i'd like to share that i think its great that you use this show to teach your children life lessons and morals. I will eventually do the same. the show is definitely very entertaining, but its life lessons are even better than the entertainment it brings. cheers!
